Privacy Policy

Last updated: 31 August 2026

This policy covers Stud Finder Detector for iOS (the “app”) and this website. Both are operated by Dawid Kowalski (“we”, “us”). Write to karlieeski+studfinder@icloud.com with any question about it.

The short version

The app has no accounts and never asks for your name, email or address. Sensor readings from your phone are processed on the device and are never uploaded. What does leave the device is device-level data collected by our analytics and advertising providers, listed below, and you can limit that.

Data we collect ourselves

None that identifies you. Settings, onboarding state, purchase status and your saved readings are stored locally on your iPhone in UserDefaults and a local Core Data database. We cannot read them. Deleting the app deletes them.

Magnetometer, accelerometer and gyroscope readings are used in memory to draw the gauge and are then discarded. They are never transmitted.

Data collected by third parties

The app includes software from the companies below. Each one collects data under its own privacy policy, as an independent controller.

ProviderPurposeTypical data
Google AdMob (Google Ireland Ltd) Banner and rewarded video ads, ad measurement Advertising identifier, IP address, device model and OS, coarse location derived from IP, ad interactions
Google User Messaging Platform Records your consent choices where GDPR or similar rules apply Your consent selections, stored on device and with Google
Mixpanel Product analytics: which screens are opened, whether onboarding finished, whether a purchase succeeded A random device identifier, app version, device model, OS version, event names and timestamps
Apple (App Store & StoreKit) Processing purchases and subscriptions, crash reports if you opted in with Apple Purchase receipts. Apple, not us, handles all payment details
Apple SKAdNetwork Privacy-preserving measurement of which ad campaign led to an install Aggregated, non-identifying install signals

We never see or store your payment card. Apple handles every transaction.

App Tracking Transparency

On first launch the app asks, through Apple's standard prompt, whether it may track you across other companies' apps and websites. Choose Ask App Not to Track and the advertising identifier is withheld from our providers; ads still appear but are not personalised. You can change the answer at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking on your iPhone.

Consent in the EEA, UK and Switzerland

If you are in a region covered by the GDPR or equivalent law, a consent screen from the Google User Messaging Platform appears before any personalised advertising. The lawful basis for personalised ads and analytics is your consent; the lawful basis for processing a purchase is performance of a contract. You can reopen the consent screen from the app's Settings and withdraw or change consent at any time.

Children

The app is rated 4+ but is built for adults doing DIY work. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided data through one of our providers, contact us and we will ask for its deletion.

Retention

Data on your device stays until you delete the app. Data held by the providers above is retained under their own schedules — Mixpanel and Google both publish theirs. Messages you send us through the contact form or by email are kept only as long as needed to answer you.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, port or restrict processing of your data, and to object to it. Because the app holds nothing that identifies you, the fastest route is usually to reset your advertising identifier on the device and delete the app. For a formal request, email karlieeski+studfinder@icloud.com and we will act within 30 days. Residents of the EEA and UK may also complain to their national data protection authority.

Sale of personal information

We do not sell personal information for money. Some sharing with advertising partners for personalised advertising may count as a “sale” or “sharing” under California law; declining the App Tracking Transparency prompt opts you out of it.

Security

Traffic to our providers uses HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of services we do not operate, so please read their policies too: Google, AdMob, Mixpanel, Apple.

This website

The site sets no advertising or analytics cookies. If you use the contact form, the name, email address and message you type are sent to our support inbox so we can reply. They are not used for marketing and are not passed to anyone else. Web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address as part of that request.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top and, for a change that affects you materially, note it in the app. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the new version.
